Scroll Budget Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 7, 2026
Applies to: Scroll Budget, version 1.0.0
Developer: erdemtuna
Scroll Budget helps you set daily time and hourly or daily visit budgets for websites and website sections. It processes browser activity locally to provide that feature. The extension does not send your rules, browsing activity, or usage to the developer or to a server.
Information processed on your device
- Your settings: website domains and optional path prefixes, enabled/paused rules, time and visit budgets, frequency units, and enforcement modes.
- Usage counters: foreground time and visit counts for each rule, together with the current local day and hour used to reset those counters.
- Current browser activity: top-level navigation URLs, tab identifiers, the current active tab, page visibility, and whether Chrome's window is focused or minimized. Chrome navigation events can reveal URLs for tabs outside your selected rules as well. The extension uses those events to distinguish entering and leaving rules, but does not retain unrelated URLs. Leaving every active permitted rule clears that tab's tracked state.
- Temporary tracked-tab state: rule membership, whether a visit was admitted, temporary override flags, and locally generated visit/gate tokens. Current matching URLs are held in the live background worker's memory, not persisted for admitted visits. A full original URL is kept in session storage only while a matching tracked visit has a pending limit page, so a permitted retry or override can return to the right page. Full return URLs can include query strings and fragments; a website may put personal or sensitive information in those parts of its URL.
The extension does not read page text, form values, messages, account credentials, cookies, payment information, or downloaded files. Its content script reports visibility and displays its own warning notice; it does not scrape the site's content. The word continue is checked to authorize an override and is not a password or an account credential.
Why this information is used
The information is used only to match your website rules, count visits and focused foreground time, apply your chosen warning/override/blocking mode, display your budgets, reset counters, and return the same tab to its original page after an eligible retry or deliberate override. Temporary state lets an admitted visit survive a page reload or extension-worker suspension without becoming another visit.
Storage and retention
- Rules and current per-rule counters are stored in Chrome's
storage.localon your device. They are not stored instorage.sync. Usage buckets reset when the extension reconciles the new local day or hour; no long-term usage timeline is kept. Settings remain until you edit/delete them or uninstall the extension. - Minimal tracked-tab state and pending-gate return URLs are stored in Chrome's
storage.session. Untracked URLs are never retained there. Leaving all active permitted rules, closing the tab, or Chrome clearing extension session storage removes the tab state; Chrome clears session storage on browser restart, extension reload/update, or disabling the extension. Returning from a gate removes its stored full URL. Background-worker suspension alone does not clear a pending gate or admitted visit; the worker recovers current matching URLs from Chrome when it restarts. - Chrome manages extension storage and site-access grants. Scroll Budget does not add application-level encryption to local storage. Anyone with sufficient access to your browser profile or computer may be able to inspect local extension data.
Sharing, transmission, and third parties
Scroll Budget has no account, backend, analytics, advertising, telemetry, remote scripts, or data-sale service. Its runtime messages pass between extension components within your browser, not to an external service. The developer does not receive or inspect your rules or browsing usage through the extension.
When you choose to visit or return to a website, Chrome makes the ordinary website request, which is governed by that website's practices. Chrome and the Chrome Web Store may process installation, update, or store-support information under Google's policies independently of Scroll Budget. If you voluntarily contact the developer through store support, the information you choose to send is handled by that support service and used to respond; avoid including sensitive URLs or personal information.
Your controls
You can view, edit, pause, or delete rules in Manage rules. Deleting a rule deletes its stored per-rule usage. Pausing a rule stops its budget tracking but keeps the rule and counters. Chrome's extension site-access settings let you revoke a site's permission; a rule without permission is labeled Needs site permission and does not enforce tracking. Existing Chrome grants are not automatically removed when you pause or delete a rule.
Leaving a rule or closing its tab ends the current override. Restarting Chrome clears temporary session state. Uninstalling Scroll Budget removes its extension storage under Chrome's normal behavior. Incognito is not supported.
Limited Use
Scroll Budget's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Browser activity is used only for the prominently described budgeting feature. It is not used or transferred for advertising, sold to third parties, or used to determine creditworthiness or lending eligibility. The extension does not make your browser activity available for human review by the developer.
